Is Your Business Ready for a Seasonal Campaign? What to Check Before You Launch

Contents

Seasonal campaigns bring high turnover for online stores, but they also put heavy strain on their technical readiness. During peak days the ad budget is spent quickly, and a slow site, broken pixels or out-of-stock items turn that spend into a loss. A successful seasonal campaign requires alignment between marketing, technical SEO, accurate data and logistics. In this guide the CreateX team has put together a checklist of the checks to run before your campaign goes live. Good preparation is the difference between high revenue and a wasted ad budget.

A seasonal marketing campaign is not just advertising

Advertising attracts visitors, but whether they buy depends on the offer, the stock, the site, the team and the payment. When one link does not work well, the budget is spent without result. If you are unsure where it is wiser to invest, see our comparison: more ad budget or a better landing page.

Online store owners often plan their promotions just a few days before the peak dates. This late approach creates confusion, overloads the team and raises the average cost per click for advertising compared with the competition. Preparing for a seasonal campaign takes at least four to six weeks to distribute the tasks.

During peak days there are more advertisers on the ad platforms and competition for ad space increases. That is why audiences built and “warmed up” in advance bring cheaper conversions at that time. Planning ahead also leaves time to fix technical problems in the store.

Logistics also require attention. Suppliers, warehouses and courier companies get overloaded quickly in this period. Delayed orders to suppliers lead to missing stock and negative reviews. When the team has ready instructions for processing orders, the load is handled more easily.

An example from our work with the Shelly brand shows the effect of a phased approach. The CreateX team developed the concept for the Black Friday campaign in two consecutive phases (pre-warming and peak period) across more than 30 international markets. The campaign won first place at the IAB MIXX Awards Bulgaria 2026 in the E-Commerce Campaign category.

Planning the offers and discounts early gives clarity on margins and protects against losses from discounts that are too large. When everyone on the team knows their responsibilities, communication stays clear even during peak hours.

Technical checks and site preparation before the campaign

The site must run reliably under increased traffic. Even a strong offer brings no result if the buyer hits an error at payment. Checking the site before the campaign protects against losses and abandoned carts.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Every second of delay reduces sales, because some users leave the site and move to other stores. Analyze your metrics according to the official Google Search Central guidance on Core Web Vitals. Pay attention to interactivity (INP) and the loading of the main content (LCP). Optimize the images, remove unnecessary code and enable caching.

Mobile version and mobile usability

Over 70% of holiday traffic comes from mobile devices. That is why product pages must look good on a small screen. Check that the buttons are easy to tap and the fonts are easy to read. For speed and mobile layout, see our product page checklist.

Hosting capacity under peak load

Contact your hosting company in advance, because a shared hosting plan often cannot cope with a sharp spike in simultaneous visits. If needed, move to a more powerful plan with more resources.

Cart, checkout and online forms

Go through the whole ordering process as an ordinary customer. Fill in a delivery address, test the promo codes and make a payment through the virtual POS terminal. Every interruption in the checkout costs revenue.

Broken links and 404 errors

Scan the site for broken links with software such as Screaming Frog. Set up 301 redirects to current categories for the problem links, so there are no empty pages.

Product stock synchronization

The integration between the warehouse software and the online store must be reliable. Selling an out-of-stock item leads to dissatisfaction and refund costs.

We recommend checking a week before the start how the site handles high load, so you can find the bottlenecks in advance. Regular monitoring of server responses helps you react in time throughout the campaign.

Tracking and data: Are GA4, conversions and the pixels ready?

Marketing decisions without accurate data rest on assumptions. Correct conversion tracking lets you direct the ad budget to the channels with the best return.

The tools that require setup and checking are:

  • Google Analytics 4: check whether the key events add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase send accurate data on prices and products. You will find detailed guidance in the Google Support guide for GA4. Mark only the important events as key events.
  • Google Tag Manager: remove the unnecessary or duplicate tags that slow down loading. Use Preview mode to check that the triggers fire the tags on a real order.
  • Meta Pixel and Conversions API: server-side reporting helps you overcome the limitations in mobile browsers. Check whether the data from the pixel and the Conversions API match and keep a good Event Match Quality, following the documentation in the Meta Business Help Center.
  • Google Ads conversions: test whether the tag passes unique transactions with dynamic values, without duplication.
  • Consent Mode v2: check the cookie banner to make sure tracking collects modeled data when consent is declined.
  • Test purchase: place a trial order. Check whether the transaction appears in the real-time report in GA4 and the ad platforms.

Accurate data shows which channels are not worth the spend and which actually drive sales. This way you can increase the budget where there is already a result, instead of relying on assumptions.

A lack of clear attribution of where sales come from often leads to pausing profitable campaigns by mistake. The time spent checking the analytics tools pays off during the peak days.

If you have difficulties setting up the analytics tools, see our marketing results analysis service for correct data collection.

Ads, budget and content

Attracting buyers amid heightened competition requires consistent ad messaging. Errors in the offers or rejected ads stop sales during the busiest period.

Prepare and upload all ads a few days before the start. Approval in Google Ads and Meta usually takes an hour or two even on busy days, but uploading early gives you a buffer to fix an ad that has been rejected.

Split the budget into three phases:

  1. Preparation before the start (building interest and remarketing audiences);
  2. Active period (the main sales during the offer);
  3. Remarketing after the campaign (to visitors who did not buy).

Optimize the landing pages for speed and a clear offer with a deadline. Send emails to your segmented subscribers to prepare them for the discounts.

Pay attention to announcing the discounts correctly. On the Bulgarian market the rules are enforced by the Commission for Consumer Protection (kzp.bg). The displayed old price must be the lowest price of the product over the last 30 days, to avoid fines.

Review the texts for typos and wrong prices before the start. Clear promotion rules build trust and reduce questions from customers.

A seasonal campaign begins before the first ad

A successful seasonal campaign does not depend on luck, but on preparation and groundwork. Every link – from server speed to conversion settings – affects the final result. When the technical details are sorted out in time, the team can focus on serving customers.

High returns require knowledge of web analytics, technical SEO and performance advertising. Gaps in tracking or a slow site reduce the margin and turn the expected peak into a problem. Learn more about our approach on the pages for strategic solutions and performance marketing.

If you need a professional check before your next big promotional event, contact CreateX. Our team will review the readiness of your systems, identify the risks and help you turn increased traffic into sales.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long should a holiday promotion last?

For online stores, usually 3 to 7 days. Longer promotions reduce the sense of urgency and the initial interest.

Replace the ad visual with a similar product or redirect the budget to other in-demand categories. On the product page, add a back-in-stock notification form.

Server-side reporting is important, because the standard pixel misses part of the data due to browser limitations. With CAPI you record conversions more fully.

Use caching, optimize the images and ask your hosting provider for a temporary increase in resources before the start.
